Armed Forces Scholarship


The purpose of the KA Hammond Alumni Chapter Armed Forces Scholarship was created to honor brother Gerard Laborde for his love and dedication to Kappa Alpha Order, Hammond Alumni Chapter, Epsilon Kappa Chapter and the United States of America.

Brother Laborde joined Epsilon Kappa Chapter in 2006, and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. Throughout the years SFC Laborde served in many positions in the National Guard, and after graduation he chose to serve two tours overseas.

SFC Laborde has been awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Military Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Military Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Military Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Military Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Louisiana War Cross, Louisiana Emergency Service Ribbon, and the Louisiana Longevity Award.

The Armed Forces scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $500 each semester.

Criteria For Selection:

  1. Must be a member of the Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order in good standing
  2. Must be a veteran or currently serving in the Armed Forces
  3. Must submit two letters of recommendation (cannot be a KA Alumnus or KA Faculty Advisor)
  4. Must submit a 500 word biography
  5. Must be a full time student (A full time student is defined as a student enrolled in 12 hours of credit courses)
  6. Minimum 3.0 GPA
